Testicular Cancer: Treatments & Follow-Up!
When testicular cancer spreads beyond the testes, further management is needed to ensure a complete cure.
Common types of chemotherapy can completely cure most patients with testicular cancer. The side effects are temporary and mostly manageable.
With radiotherapy, we target the abdominal lymph nodes to reduce the chance of recurrence or further metastasis.
Lymph node dissection, or removal of the abdominal lymph nodes, is indicated in some types of testicular cancer. This can be done using open, robotic, or laparoscopic approaches.
Long-term follow-up with physical examinations, blood tests, and imaging is essential to detect any metastases.
Follow-up is advised for at least 5 years, but in most cases up to 10 years.
Good news: most patients with testicular cancer can be completely cured and remain cancer-free for life.
