The first decision is whether the entire kidney should be removed, known as a radical nephrectomy, or just the tumor, known as a partial nephrectomy.
The second decision involves the surgical approach:
Open surgery, where a long incision is made on the flank or abdomen.
Laparoscopic surgery, where small incisions are made in the abdomen, and thin endoscopic instruments are used to perform the precise procedure.
Robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery, where the surgeon performs the procedure using robotic instruments for enhanced precision.
