Dubai Health has announced the successful removal of the world’s largest adrenal gland tumor during a four-hour procedure at Dubai Hospital.
The tumor, which weighed 9.4 kg and measured 27 cm x 26 cm, was removed from a 69-year-old patient, who was referred to the hospital emergency department due to a massive abdominal mass discovered during a scan.
The patient struggled with walking and breathing for months prior to surgery, requiring immediate specialized care.
The operation was performed by a multidisciplinary team of experts from urology, oncology, radiology, interventional radiology, vascular surgery, general surgery and anesthesia.
“Due to the size of the tumor and its compression on vital structures, surgical intervention posed significant challenges. However, without intervention, patient survival was at great risk,” said Dr Fariborz Bagheri, consultant urologist at Dubai Hospital , who led the operation.
“The enormous success of the procedure is a huge testament to our medical staff here at Dubai Hospital, who are putting into practice our Patient First promise of delivering high-quality care for patients,” said Dr. Mariam Al Raeesi, CEO of Dubai Hospital.
Dubai Hospital is one of the largest specialist tertiary hospitals in the UAE. As part of Dubai Health, the first integrated academic healthcare system in the emirate, the facility offers comprehensive services across all healthcare disciplines.
